Introduction to TBI

What is Traumatic Brain Injury?

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is the term used to describe when brain cells are damaged and a person’s ability to function is, in some way and to some degree, limited. Injury can occur as a result of the head being struck, penetrated, or violently shaken. Leading causes of TBI are falls, traffic-related crashes, and assaults.

TBI can have long-term consequences for survivors, families, and the community. It impacts individuals of every age, race, gender, and socio-economic status.
